Addressing Food Poverty in Bradford

Please check the new Bradford Foodbanks website for up-to-date information about your nearest food bank and access to emergency food.

Bradford Metropolitan Food Bank is a small UK registered charity (1120018). We receive donations (financial and non-perishable foods) from individuals, communities and businesses, and distribute food bags, free of charge, to organisations working with vulnerable people in need of food.

We currently distribute around 300 emergency food bags each week.

Our activities are funded by the generosity of many individual and business supporters and, in 2025/26, from Bradford Council (from the Household Support Fund payment).

We rely on a dedicated team of volunteers to help source and sort food, and pack bags ready for collection by registered third parties who then distribute to families and individuals in need.

What we do

People and shelves with boxes of food.

Organisations working with vulnerable people contact us to request food for people they know who are in need.

We can provide food bags for both individuals and families and we are respectful of dietary and cultural requirements.

We arrange for the organisation to collect the food from us (whenever possible).

We do not assess need. We depend on the skill, commitment and ongoing support from the professional carers whose job it is to support the vulnerable. We make sure they can do this by supplying the food required to keep them in contact with their clients and help them overcome short-term problems.

If you are in need of a food bag please be aware we do not give out parcels directly to individuals. Please ask any professional working with you (e.g. social worker, welfare advisor, teacher, minister, housing or health worker) to contact us.

Here is a list of places where you can get free food in Bradford everyday – (we would recommend checking first).

If you are an organisation working with vulnerable people to support them to overcome food poverty – and you need food bags from us – please fill in the contact form. We will send you details of our process and ask you to complete a registration form.

Food donations

We welcome donations of non-perishable food items.

If possible, we will arrange for donors to drop off items that they have collected.

We also have a number of food donations points – you can find your nearest donation point here.

With bulk donations we can arrange collection, if necessary. Please get in touch.

We encourage groups to keep one of our Bradford Metropolitan Food Bank collection boxes at their meeting place to encourage a regular steady flow of donations.
